How to clean suede leather, also known as suede, chamois, or velvet.
Suede is a type of velvety leather that tends to collect specks of dust or dirt and accumulate them inside.
The ideal way to clean suede leather is to use a soft-bristled brush, brushing gently in a circular motion. This will remove any dust and dirt that may have settled on the surface.
It's very important to do this occasionally to prevent dirt from becoming permanently embedded in the skin. This horsehair bristle brush is ideal for this task.
If instead of dust there are stains on the suede, you can try removing them with a special suede brush or one with firmer bristles, brushing gently to avoid damaging the leather.
If the stains are weak, you can use a soft, clean cloth moistened with a little water.
If, on the other hand, the stains are stronger or more difficult, you may need a specific cleaner such as our neutral soap cleaner.
Once you've cleaned the stains, it's recommended that you let the suede dry outdoors, avoiding direct light and heat, as these can damage it.
When it's completely dry, brush it gently. This will lift the fibers and restore that soft, velvety look.
How to clean nubuck and suede leather
Nubuck and suede leathers are prized for their softness and warmth, but great care must be taken not to get them dirty, as cleaning them afterward is not easy. Their surface is quite delicate.
Like suede leather, it is best to clean it with a soft brush to remove dust and loose dirt.
It is advisable to brush gently in the same direction to lift the fibers.
If you have stains, you can try a suede eraser or a special rubber brush.
Gently rub the stain to lift it. Avoid using water, as it can leave marks.
For tougher stains, you can use a specific cleaner like our neutral soap leather cleaner.
Apply a small amount of the cleaner to a soft cloth and gently rub it into the stain.
Then, let it air dry completely, avoiding direct exposure to the sun or heat.
After cleaning, gently brush it with a soft-bristled brush to restore its texture and appearance.
It's very important to test any cleaning method on a small, inconspicuous area of the leather to ensure it doesn't cause damage or discoloration. If you're unsure about how to clean your suede, nubuck, or split leather, it's always best to consult a leather care specialist.
